About Me
I’m Kassi—a writer and poet from Minnesota, currently living in Cincinnati.
A wife of twenty years and mom to teenage sons. For twelve years my family made California our home, then in 2020 we returned to our Midwest roots.
I’ve been writing for a decade with the dream of being a published author. But I battled self-doubt and wandered a metaphorical desert. In a time of desperation I found solace in the words of poets—poetry watered the parched ground of my being, renewing my curiosity and imagination.
I started writing my own poems, slowly gaining confidence, and eventually wrote two poetry collections. I taught myself how to create a book from start to finish, as well as how to self-publish and market my work in a competitive industry.
My latest poetry book Fire And Flourishing is a passionate reflection on change—written in the aftermath of a cross-country move during wildfire season; delves into themes of grief, motherhood, hard lessons, growth, and love’s resilience. Growing Gills is my debut poetry collection inspired by my childhood in Minnesota—centers upon wonder, reverence, and harmony with the natural world.
